On October 1, 2012, the Nevada Supreme Court will present its 2012 Legacy of Justice Award to retired Justice Miriam Shearing. Bar members are welcome to attend the event to be held in the courtroom on the 17th floor of the Regional Justice Center.

Seven Supreme Court Justices will be in attendance to honor Justice Miriam Shearing for her legacy as the “First” Lady of the Nevada Judiciary. Justice Miriam Shearing was:

• 1976 – First woman elected as Justice of the Peace in Las Vegas.
• 1982 – Nevada’s first woman to be elected as a District Court judge. In that position, she not only presided over civil and criminal cases, but also served three years of her decade at the District Court as Clark County Juvenile Court judge.
• 1992 – First woman to sit on the Nevada Supreme Court.
• 1997 – First woman to serve as Chief Justice on the Supreme Court.
