TBP Ceremony
Thursday, August 30 2012, 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Trial By Peers Ceremony Honors Student Attorneys

On August 30 at 6 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center in the Commissioner Chambers, 39 students from Clark County ranging from ages 12 to 17 years old will graduate from the Clark County Law Foundation’s Trial By Peers (TBP) Program Peer Counselor Summer Course. They will be sworn-in as student attorneys by taking an oath to uphold the highest legal and ethical standards. The oath will be administered by Senior Federal District Court Judge Lloyd D. George.

These outstanding students spent their summer vacation attending a nine-week course in law. Classes such as presenting opening and closing arguments, conducting direct- and cross-examination, substantive criminal law, and strategy and case preparation were aimed at giving each student a better understanding of our legal system and the necessary skills to prosecute and defend cases. The long hours of study and dedication culminated in an extensive bar exam.

The Honorable Frank Sullivan will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the graduation. In addition to the swearing-in ceremony, the TBP program will recognize outstanding volunteer leadership including The Honorable Sean Hoeffgen, TBP’s Judge of the Year; Patrick Orme, Esq., TBP Most Dedicated Senior Attorney; Meredith L. Markwell, Esq., TBP Most Dedicated New Senior Attorney; CCSDPD Officer Anthony Cooke, Summer Course Favorite Instructor; Bryan De La Cruz, Most Improved Peer Counselor; and Tiffany Solari, Most Dedicated Peer Counselor.

The Clark County Law Foundation’s Trial By Peers (TBP) program is an innovative diversion program used as an alternative for first and some second time juvenile offenders. This program gives juveniles hands-on experience within the legal system and allows youth charged with misdemeanors to be tried, represented, and sentenced by their peers - other teens. TBP works in cooperation with the Department of Family and Youth Services.

The Clark County Law Foundation is dedicated to providing community service programs throughout Southern Nevada that are integrated with law-related education.
