NV Supreme Court: Foreclosure Mediation Program Mediators Appointed On august 19, 2010, the Supreme Court of Nevada filed an order appointing mediators to Nevada’s Foreclosure Mediation panel. As listed in ADKT. No. 435, the following individuals were appointed:

Clark County Court Converted to Odyssey Case Management System On July 26, 2010, the Eighth Judicial District Court Criminal Division took the final steps toward converting from case management system Blackstone to Odyssey. This final phase focused on the criminal division, making all judicial departments and divisions now using Odyssey. There are two interesting and important points of procedure that bar members should note when using Odyssey. Effective July 26, 2010, multiple defendant cases are given separate case numbers for each defendant. All documents filed on these cases must include the appropriate case number. In addition, the criminal case number format will be changed from 09C123456 to C-10-123456-1. Odyssey can be accessed directly online at https://www.clarkcountycourts.us/Anonymous/default.aspx. Metro Begins Charging for Sealing Records Effective August 1, 2010, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will be charging a fee of $121.00 per court order to seal records. Court orders received by LVMPD's Records Bureau via mail or drop off must be accompanied by a business check from the attorney’s office in order to be processed. Citizen’s filing their own, have the option of mailing the court order along with a money order or delivering the court order in person to LVMPD Police Records, 400 E. Stewart, Las Vegas, NV, and paying with a money order or cash. No personal checks will be accepted. Please note this fee is separate from the filing fees charged by the courts and will not be accepted by the courts. List of LVMPD Service Charges Effective August 1, 2010 (PDF) Medical/Dental Malpractice Status Check Calendar - AUG 3 & 4 On Tuesday, July 21, 2010, Chief Judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court T. Arthur Ritchie, Jr. announced the Medical/Dental Malpractice Status Check Calendar will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010, and Wednesday, August 4th, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day at the Complex Litigation Center, 333 South Sixth Street. The court will be incorporating the Supreme Court approved Senior Judge Settlement Program and staff will be available to schedule settlement conferences to be heard the first two weeks of November, 2010. NV Supreme Court Amends Foreclosure Mediation Rule 5(8)(b) On July 21, 2010, the Nevada Supreme Court filed an order that amends the rules governing the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program. Specifically, the amendment affects who can represent the borrower. See Section 8, Subsection b. The amendment, as defined in ADKT No. 435, is effective 30 days from the date of the order. Thanks! Clark County Court: Court to Reduce E-Filing Fees On Tuesday, July 27, 2010, Chief Judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court T. Arthur Ritchie, Jr. announced a planned reduction in the service fees associated with mandatory electronic filing. The amount of reduction is expected to be more than 40% from $6 to $3.50 and be effective sometime in September 2010. For more information, see court news release. Supreme Court of United States Swearing-in Ceremony: SEPT 15 On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nevada, there will be a special swearing-in ceremony for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. Hosted by the US District Court for the District of Nevada and the Nevada Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, the ceremony will be conducted by William K. Suter, Clerk of the Court for the Supreme Court of the United States at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse located at 333 Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, Nevada. LV JUSTICE COURT: Case Reassignment Affects Departments 2 and 12 Effective July 6, 2010, all cases that are presently assigned to Department 12 (Judge Sullivan) will be reassigned to Department 2 (Judge Sciscento) and all cases that are presently assigned to Department 2 will be reassigned to Department 12. BUSINESS COURT: New Cover Sheet for Initial Business Court Filings Nevada’s Administrative Office of the Courts has adopted and approved the use of a new coversheet for business court filings (PDF). It allows a user to indicate the type of civil filing and the type of business court case; however it does not replace the current civil coversheet. It is simply a separate coversheet to be used only for initial business court filings. The AOC requests all attorneys begin using this form immediately when filing business court cases. JUVENILE DEPENDENCY COURT: Order Regarding Assignment of Juvenile Dependency Matters On May 21, 2010, Eighth Judicial District Court Chief Judge Art Ritchie signed an administrative order regarding the assignment of Juvenile Dependency Matters. Administrative Order No. 2010-07 designates the family court judge Hon. Frank P. Sullivan to serve as a juvenile dependency court judge effective July 1, 2010. It further ordered for family court judges, Hon. Dianne Steel and Hon. Frank P. Sullivan, be assigned juvenile dependency matter for the Eighth Judicial District Court. NV SUPREME COURT: Amendments to Local Rules of Practice for Eighth Judicial District Court On May 19, 2010, the Supreme Court of Nevada signed an order amending the local rules of practice for the Eighth Judicial District Court. NV SUPREME COURT: Nevada Short Trial Rules to Provide for Alternate Trials The Supreme Court of Nevada has ordered the amendment of the Short Trial Rules to provide for alternate trials. An alternate trial program begins as a pilot project for six months pending the adoption of formal rules. The pilot program has been established to run from July 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010 for alternate jury and bench trials pursuant to the provisions of exhibits A, B and C attached to ADKT 447. Conversion of Case Management System for Criminal Division Postponed The Eighth Judicial District Court's conversion of its Criminal Case Management System has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. The Court Clerk originally planned for the conversion to take place June 2, 2010 through June 4, 2010. The court will announce new deadlines for the conversion of the system from Blackstone to the Odyssey Case Management System as they become available. Nevada Supreme Court: Order Amends Foreclosure Mediation Rules On April 22, 2010, the Supreme Court of Nevada filed an order amending the foreclosure mediation rules. The Nevada AOC to Offer Grants to Enhance Success of Foreclosure Mediation Program Grants will be available to individuals or entities for projects or start-up costs to develop programs to educate the parties in the foreclosure process. The Foreclosure Mediation Program Grant Guidelines and necessary forms are available on the Supreme Court Web site. US District Court – Mediation Panel for Early Mediation Program The United States District Court for the District of Nevada invites attorneys admitted to practice in the District of Nevada to apply for service on a mediation panel for the Court’s Early Mediation Program for Section 1983 Inmate Cases in the unofficial southern division of the District. Bankruptcy Court: New Phone Numbers for Nevada BK Courthouses Due to an upgrade to their phone system, the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada has changed ALL of their phone numbers. The new main number for the Las Vegas courthouse is (702) 527-7000. The new main number for the Reno courthouse is (775) 326-2100. Las Vegas Justice Court Cuts Overnight Services at Jail As of March 1, 2010, the Las Vegas Township Justice Court’s Pretrial Services Division is closed between the hours of midnight to 8 a.m. at the Clark County Detention Center. The closure is expected to affect individuals and bail bonding companies who wish to post bail with justice court during the overnight hours. Information on inmates incarcerated can be accessed online, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, at the Clark County Detention Center. NV Supreme Court Amends SCR 111(4): Bar counsel’s responsibility increased On February 18, 2010, the Nevada Supreme Court filed an order amending Supreme Court Rule 111(4) increasing the responsibilities for bar counsel in matters regarding attorneys convicted of crimes. Eighth Judicial District Court: Electronic Filing Tips Since February 1, 2010, electronic filing has been mandatory in the Eighth Judicial District Court (Clark County, NV). The court suggests some tips for making the system work better: file early, include electronic signatures or signed documents and ensure documents include the correct case numbers. Attorneys can access the court’s official E-File & Serve and Document Access Program via Wiznet. Wiznet users experiencing problems with the court’s e-filing system are encouraged to call for assistance: (702) 671-0514 (Civil) or (702) 455-5941 or 455-2357 (Family). Eighth Judicial District Court: Judge Cadish Manages Probate Cases Judge Elissa F. Cadish now manages probate cases filed in the Eighth Judicial District Court as well as supervises the court’s probate commissioner. Details at AO 2010-2 (PDF). LV Justice Court: Assessment of Fees for Indigent Defense Las Vegas Justice Court to asses fees for the defense of indigent defendants by the Clark County Public Defender or conflict counsel pursuant to NRS 178.3975 in appropriate cases.
