CCBA Welcomes New Executive Board

On Thursday, January 17, 2013, the Clark County Bar Association held the swearing-in ceremony for the organization's incoming officers and directors.

CCBA 2013 Executive Board

Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Susan Scann serves as a judicial representative to the executive board.

The officers serve for one year with terms to expire in December 2013. The directors serve two years with staggered terms. The oath of office was administered by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Lloyd D. George.


Public Speaking Opportunities For CCBA Attorneys

The Clark County Bar Association seeks attorneys to speak to audiences gathered at upcoming performances of the City of Las Vegas’ “Downtown Cultural Series” held in the jury assembly room at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse. Attorneys must be CCBA members to participate. Contact Steph at CCBA to get involved, 702-387-6011.

Speakers are sought for the following dates, with appearance at the podium from 11:50 to 11:55 a.m.:

As free, public events, the demographic of the audience can vary. Past audiences have included visitors from local senior citizen centers, court staff, and locals simply enjoying their lunch watching talented performers. A CCBA attorney provides a brief presentation right before the performers take the stage.

The brief format allows for a two to three minute presentation. The topics of presentation are subject to approval and should be restricted to general legal matters. Suggested topics include:

  • Local legal resources;
  • Judicial selection process for local, state, and federal judges;
  • Real estate & housing issues; Foreclosure mediation;
  • Alternative dispute resolution;
  • Jury and jury service;
  • Elder law issues;
  • Jurisdiction and practice before one of Nevada’s state or local courts; and
  • Jurisdiction and practice before a local federal courts: general jurisdiction trial court, bankruptcy court, tax court, Social Security Administration, immigration court, tax court, court of appeals for veterans claims, etc.

The series is produced by the City of Las Vegas’ Office of Cultural Affairs with cooperation by the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse. Performances are held inside the Linda Fitzgerald Jury Assembly Room inside the courthouse at 333 Las Vegas Boulevard South. Performances vary and can include music, dance, and drama. The scheduled performers are subject to change without notice. Performances are listed at http://www.artslasvegas.org/.
