UNLV Boyd Law 2nd Annual Frank A. Schreck Gaming Law Moot Court Competition
Volunteers needed to judge the students’ performances during the following dates/times:
- Friday, March 31, 2017 – 6:00 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Reception to follow immediately after competition
This year’s competition will feature 22 teams from schools across the country arguing a case involving nightclub regulations and first amendment advertising issues.The event will be held at William S. Boyd School of Law, 4505 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada.
UNLV Boyd Law 19th Annual Moot Court Competition
The competition is in the format of an appellate argument before the Nevada Supreme Court whereby each student gets 12 minutes for oral argument with the judges to provide constructive feedback.The event will be held at William S. Boyd School of Law, 4505 South Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Volunteers needed to judge the students’ performances during the following dates/times:
- Friday, April 21, 2017 – 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tour de Summerlin
An opportunity for CCBA members to participate in the non-competitive bike ride presented by Great Rides Productions and to support the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).

CCBA Hike at First Creek Falls Trail
An opportunity for CCBA members to participate in the non-competitive hike in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
Date: Saturday, May 13, 2017
Meet-up: 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. departure to hike
Location: First Creek Trailhead – Drive out West Charleston Blvd, past the exit from the Scenic Loop Road, to the First Creek Trailhead, to park.
About: This is a pleasant 2.2-mile walk (round trip) across a desert valley beneath towering red-and-white sandstone cliffs in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Kids and pets welcome to hike. Pets must be on a leash (six-foot maximum) and under physical control at all times. All hikers should heed warnings and leave no trace of their passage.

An opportunity for bar members to help with produce and grocery packing for individuals who receive meal assistance and mobile pantries
Date: Saturday, May, 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Location: Three Square (Warehouse), 4190 N. Pecos Road, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89115
Who: Open to all bar members, support staff, friends, family. Volunteers of ages 10-15 must have a parent/guardian present and sign a permission slip. Ages 16-17 may volunteer on their own with a consent form. Sorry, no volunteers under age 10.
What: Volunteer activities may include produce and grocery packing for individuals who receive meal assistance and mobile pantries; sorting and packing donated food and non-food items; and office support. Volunteers may be standing, bending, lifting, and walking on concrete in non-climate controlled Dress Code: Dress warm in the winter months and cool in the summer months. Wear pants or knee length shorts, t-shirt, closed-toe shoes, and a smile. No low-cut, mid-drift, or tank tops will be allowed.

Opportunity for members of the Clark County Bar to make a short, public address
The Clark County Bar Association is seeking attorney members to volunteer to speak to the crowd gathered for the performances scheduled as part of the “Downtown Cultural Series” held monthly inside the Carol Fitzgerald Jury Assembly Room at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse.

Typical schedule (on day of event):
- 11:50 a.m.-11:59 a.m. – Attorney speaker at podium to present public education
- 12:00 (noon) – 1:00 p.m. – Artists on stage to perform
Only attorneys who are members of the Clark County Bar Association will be selected to speak. There is no charge for the attorney to participate with appearances limited to once per season.
On the day of the performance, the scheduled speaker must be ready at the podium to start speaking by 11:50 a.m. and they must finish by 11:59 p.m. before the performers take the stage at noon.
Choose your own topic to present to the audience. The content of the 3-4 minute presentations are to educate the public, be kept general in nature, and be without any promotional content for their law practice, business, or advocacy of a political nature. Additionally, the speaker cannot distribute flyers or brochures to promote their law practice or business. The presentation should not lend the dignity of the court to any private interest. Topics are subject to approval. Suggested topics for a presentation include:
- Courts – judicial selection process for local, state, and federal judges
- Courts – jurisdiction of any one of the local or state courts
- Courts – jurisdiction of any one of the local federal courts, including general jurisdiction trial court, bankruptcy court, tax court, Social Security Administration, immigration court, tax court, court of appeals for veterans claims, etc.
- Elder law issues
- Jury and jury service
- Landlord/tenant resources
- Living wills
- Military legal assistance
- Tax law updates
More about the Downtown Cultural Series
Admission to attend the event is free and open to the public. Typically, a light refreshment buffet is made available for guests to enjoy during the event. The series is produced by the City of Las Vegas’ Office of Cultural Affairs with cooperation by the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse. Performances vary and can include music, dance, and drama.
